National Institute of Rural Development(NIRD & PR) invites all the participants across the globe to attend the International Conference on

“Geo-Spatial Technology for Natural Resource Management & Climate Change”

The Centre on Geo-informatics Application in Rural Development (CGARD),School of Science, Technology and Knowledge Systems, National Institute of Rural Development&Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR), Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, invites applications for participation and research paper to present in the International Conference during 21 - 22 December 2017, to be held at NIRD&PR, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.

NIRD & PR’s mission is to examine and analyze the factors contributing to the improvement of economic & social well-being of people in rural areas on a sustainable basis with focus on the rural poor by improving the knowledge, skills and attributes of rural development officials and non-officials through organizing training, workshops, seminars and conferences.

Centre for Geo-Informatics Applications in Rural Development (CGARD)

CGARD in NIRD & PR aims to design and develop Geoinformatics applications in rural development sector and develop the skill and knowledge levels in Geoinformatics Technology among the development functionaries from the Government, Non-Government, State Institute of Rural Development, National & International Agencies. CGARD designs tailor made training programs in Geoinformatics Technology applications in the areas related to planning, monitoring, modelling & decision support systems on watershed, MGNREGA, PMGSY, agriculture development, environmental assessment, conservation practices, resources planning, infrastructure development, and village planning etc.

The CGARD relatively work towards sensitizingPolicy Makers, People Representatives, decision makers and field functionaries & field level implementing agencies and GO/NGO’s in the usage of Geoinformatics Technology.

NRM & Climate Change in Rural Development Scenario

Almost half of the world’s population live in rural areas, with their livelihoods and security depending directly on the productivity of land and water resources. At the same time, rural areas provide resources for urban populations, ranging from food and fibre to water, minerals and energy. Climate change related impacts are currently affecting rural communities. These impacts will progressively increase over this century and will shift the locations where rural economic activities (like agriculture, forestry, and recreation) can thrive. All theseconstrains, there is a dire need to ensure that these resources are effectively managed. A lot of management practices have been advanced in the field of natural resources and climate change aspects. Some of them have been effective while others have failed to achieve the desired outcome. However, with the current trend in the advancement in the field of geospatial technology, natural resources managers have now laid a lot of emphasis on the use of remote sensing and GIS technologies in the management of natural resources. These technologies provide a platform through which managers can generate informative data and information that can be used to make sound decisions for sustainable development. For over three decades now, the use of remote sensing satellites has been in application in almost all fields of natural resources management and climate change studies. Remote sensing and GIS technologies have always generated informative data that have led to the sustainable natural resource management.

The economic, social and cultural viability of any Nation is mainly determined by the natural resources endowment and is essential to the growth, development and economics stability of a nation, with provision of employment, livelihood, and overall development of the region, catering towards input raw materials for manufacturing and industries, source of food and income, basic needs as well as energy.

Sustainable use of NRM, and working to resilient strategies to face the challenges of the overstretching population, anthropogenic pressures, dwindling forest cover, encroachment.Has led to increased human/wildlife, adverse impact on climate, upsurge in the extreme events , depletion of natural resources, changes in weather patterns and decline in the economic, social and cultural aspects of communities. It is therefore imperative that concerted efforts and innovations using Geospatial Technologies to mitigate climate change effects, good management of natural resources, healthy ecosystems can significantly contribute towards providing good adaptability in a maintaining our ecosystem, livelihoods, NRM and offset the impact of disasters.
